To check whether a given pair is a solution of the linear equation
Following steps are to be followed to check whether a given pair is a solution of linear equation or not :
Illustration: Check whether (3,4) is a solution of the equation 3x - 5y = 6
Solution: Substituting the value in the Left Hand Side of equation
Left Hand Side (L.H.S.) = 3(3) - 5(4) = 9 - 20 = -11
Right Hand Side (R.H.S) = 6
Illustration: Check whether (-3,-2) is a solution of the equation
Solution: Left Hand Side (L.H.S.)
Right Hand Side (R.H.S) =1
So (-3,-2) is a solution of the equation.
